Life-Threatening Heat Wave Slamming West Coast

A dangerous record-breaking heatwave is raging through the West Coast, causing canceled flights and fires in much of California and its surrounding states.

Las Vegas could match its all-time record high of 117 degrees this weekend. An airport in Colorado had a high of 107 degrees, breaking the previous record of 106 from 2005. The Oregon Oregon medical examiner’s office released a statement, confirming 83 people have died as a result of the heat.

It was 100 degrees in Sacramento and Death Valley recorded a high temperature of 130 degrees.

“Do not put yourself, nor first responders in danger this weekend,” a tweet read out.

A statewide “flex alert,” which is a call for electricity conservation, was extended to Saturday in the face of high heat and a wildfire in southeastern Oregon.
