PHILADELPHIA, PA (Fwrd Axis) – Fans of film, television, comics, and pop culture turned up in droves for this year’s Fan Expo (formerly Wizard World) in the “City of Brotherly Love” this past weekend. From autograph seekers to creative cosplayers, the event showed that gathering to enjoy what we all love and are passionate about is starting to be something that we can all take part in again, after a two-year hiatus set in motion by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Fan Expo Philadelphia schedule of events covered a wide variety of topics and high-profile guests. Fans took part in Q&A sessions with beloved actors like Ron Perlman and Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy), John De Lancie (Star Trek: The Next Generation), David Tennant (Doctor Who), legendary actor William Shatner (Star Trek), and Kevin Smith movie fans were treated to an incredible experience with the cast of Clerks (Jeff Anderson, Brian O’Halloran, and Trevor Fehrman). Along with celebrity guests, comic book fans and aspiring artists alike enjoyed several panels and sessions with some of the most talented artists and writers in the industry today.
Specially ticketed events were also on hand to create a unique and personal experience for fans, such as the Jay And Silent Bob Show Live, where actor Jason Mewes (Jay) and his hetero life mate, director/actor Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) shared stories and participated in a Q&A with fans, gave autographs and posed for photos. As with all conventions, the theme that was most abundantly threaded throughout was community. The organizers spent extra care in developing and executing special events and meetups for cosplayers over the course of the weekend. Attendees had many opportunities to snap photos with their favorite characters as they roved around the show floor…even if some of them were a little “sus.”
All in all, Fan Expo has everything. From comic books to collectibles for the hardcore enthusiast to family fun and events, celebrity guests, and exclusive panels and experiences not found anywhere else, Fan Expo HQ has been busy providing the world with joy and gives us a reason to get out of the house for the weekend! If you missed this year’s Fan Expo in Philly, fear not! The event will take place again next year from June 2-4, 2023!
