(Fwrd Axis) — The CW dropped the axe on two series Friday, canceling Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow respectively, ending speculation about the fate of two Arrowverse shows.
Showrunner Caroline Dries announced the cancellation of Batwoman after three seasons on Twitter, informing fans of the network’s decision saying she was “bummed, but full of gratitude.”
“Just got the sad news that Batwoman will not be seeing an S4,” Dries tweeted. “I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you, producers, cast, and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”

The superhero drama starred Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder/Batwoman, taking over from Ruby Rose who departed the show after just one season.
“I was taught that words have power and we speak our life into existence. Well, I spoke this role into my life, and what an honor it has been to watch it play out exactly how it was meant to,” she wrote. “Family, this Bat Team is ours…HERstory was made and it can never be taken.”
The third season of Batwoman averaged 760,000 total viewers and a 0.2 demo rating, down 20 percent from its second season. The show ended with Ryan using the Joker Buzzer on Marquis, seemingly curing her brother of his Joker persona, and Alice departing Gotham City for her next adventure.
Meanwhile, The Waverider has officially completed its last mission. Co-showrunner Keto Shimizu broke the news on Twitter, announcing Legends of Tomorrow has been canceled after eight seasons.
“Well, folks. It’s been an incredible run. However, the CW has let us know that there will be no Season 8 of Legends of Tomorrow,” he wrote. “We are heartbroken, but also immensely grateful for the amazing work our cast, crew, and writers have contributed to the little show that could.”
Legends capped off its seventh and final season averaging 860,000 total weekly viewers and a 0.2 demo rating, up from the previous season.
The news comes as The CW is currently up for sale and Nexstar is currently in talks to purchase a major stake in the network. Another show about Gotham City, titled “Gotham Knights” is currently in production.
