Joe Biden is getting ready to hit the road for the first time in five months.
The Democratic presidential nominee is planning to resume in-person campaigning following Labor Day, he announced on Thursday during a fundraiser.
“One of the things we’re thinking about is I’m going to be going up into Wisconsin, and Minnesota, spending time in Pennsylvania, out in Arizona. But we’re going to do it in a way that is totally consistent with being responsible, unlike what this guy’s doing,” Biden said, according to a pool report. “I’m a tactile politician. I really miss being able to, you know, grab hands, shake hands, you can’t do that now. But I can in fact appear beyond virtually, in person, in many of these places.”
President Donald Trump and his aides have been using their usual line of Mr. Biden being stuck in his basement and not traveling, particularly when he did not accept the Democratic nomination in Milwaukee as originally planned.
Mr. Trump visited the battleground state of Wisconsin last week and accused the former Vice President of not taking the state seriously.
“Biden and the Democrats have greatly disrespected the Great State of Wisconsin by not even paying a small visit to Milwaukee, the designated site of the DNC,” Trump tweeted. “The State & City worked very hard to make sure things would be good. Not nice.”
Mr. Biden commented on Thursday that while he will be traveling, his staff is ensuring that it is done safely for him and his supporters, stressing they will follow the states strict protocol.
“What we’re working on is how I get out,” Biden said. “I’m going to be traveling throughout the country where I can do it consistent with the state rules about how many people can be assembled.”
Mr. Biden announced his travel plans on the same day he made the media rounds, conducting interviews on both MSNBC and CNN.
