HBO Max Announces Reboot Of ‘Degrassi’ Coming in 2023

Whatever It Takes…Degrassi is back!

(Fwrd Axis) — HBO Max announced Thursday the streaming service has greenlit a new series of the popular Canadian drama Degrassi, adding to the teen drama series which ended its run on Netflix a few years ago.

The series will be a reboot of the popular franchise that “will chart the painful high school experience of self-discovery by following a group of Toronto students and faculty coping with events that both bring them together and tear them apart.”

“Series after series, the ‘Degrassi’ franchise continues to make an indelible impact on young viewers looking for trustworthy and authentic storytelling,” said Amy Friedman, head of kids and family programming at Warner Bros. “WildBrain continues to artfully capture high school life in a compelling format that can be experienced seamlessly on HBO Max.”

“What excites us maybe the most about reviving this beloved franchise is turning it into a truly serialized one-hour drama. We’re honored to be given the opportunity to lead this evolution and bring this iconic series back into people’s homes.”

Additionally, the streaming service announced they will be bringing Degrassi: The Next Generation to its platform. The previous versions of the show featured half-hour episodes, but the newest series will see Degrassi become an hour-long drama, indicating that the show will become more drama-focused for serious viewers.

There is no news on casting or the new show’s creative team, production on the new show is slated to begin sometime this year in Toronto.
