WASHINGTON (Fwrd Axis) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put an end to the speculation she’s retiring and announced Tuesday that she will seek another term in Congress.
Pelosi’s announcement officially ends speculation about her possibly retiring after 30 years in Congress.
“While we have made progress much more needs to be done to improve people’s lives. This election is crucial: nothing less is at stake than our Democracy,” she said in a tweet.
“I am running for re-election to Congress and respectfully seek your support,” Pelosi said in a video. She added her goal for another term is “to deliver For The People and defend Democracy.”
However, according to her terms that led to her being elected House Speaker in 2019, she is not likely to seek another term in leadership. Democrats are eyeing Hakeem Jeffries to take over for Pelosi if the party keeps hold of the House of Representatives in November’s midterm election.
Pelosi has served in Congress since 1987.
