The Washington Football Team Will Now Be Called The Washington Commanders

The Washington Football Team officially announced their new name and logo on Thursday morning, The Washington Commanders.

(Fwrd Axis) — February 1st is the start of a new month that only encompasses one official NFL match, the Super Bowl. However, around the league, there is plenty of news to follow.

First the Washington Com… I mean Football Team officially announced their new name and logo on Thursday morning, The Washington Commanders.

However, on Twitter, many accounts have pointed out that FedEx fields team store featured word out for the new team name. Of course, the process of the name change began in 2019 when the franchise dropped the Redskins name due to the negative viewpoint of the name. Since the dropping of the name Washington had simply the football team. Washington had originally stated that even with the name change the team would retrain the burgundy and gold color scheme. According to multiple leaks, the logo features a burgundy W and a gold outline.

“As an organization, we are excited to rally and rise together as one under our new identity while paying homage to our local roots and what it means to represent the nation’s capital,” team owner Dan Snyder said. “As we kick off our 90th season, it is important for our organization and fans to pay tribute to our past traditions, history, legacy, and the greats that came before us.

“We continue to honor and represent the Burgundy and Gold while forging a pathway to a new era in Washington. Today may mark the first day for the Washington Commanders, but we are and always will be Washington.”

  • Second. Former head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Brian Flores is suing the NFL. In a 58 page lawsuit filed to the United States District Court Southern District of New York. The lawsuit names three teams directly: the New York Football Giants, Miami Dolphins, and Denver Broncos. In the lawsuit, Windsor Law LLP, the law firm representing Brian Flores points out the disparity of African American coaches in the NFL.

Only 1 of the NFL’s 32 teams (3%) employs a Black Head Coach;

 Only 4 of the NFL’s 32 teams (12%) employ a Black Offensive Coordinator;

 Only 11 of the NFL’s 32 teams (34%) employ a Black Defensive Coordinator;

Further, in the suit, Flores also points out the percentages of African Americans in management decisions. For more on that lawsuit here.

  • Last in the league; you may have heard already, but it was made official that Tom Brady had retired. Brady announced the news via his Instagram. Brady wrote in the post  “I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.” Many pointed out that Brady did not include the Patriots in his retirement post.
