Auditions Open For Another Season Of ‘Big Brother Australia’ In 2023

An official announcement is likely expected at Seven Upfronts in October.

(Fwrd Axis) — Despite speculation it had been axed, Big Brother Australia appears to have been renewed for another season on Channel 7.

Endemol Shine Australia officially announced the audition process has opened with producers looking for single housemates to play Big Brother’s game. Those who are interested in applying must be 18 years of age by July 31 2022 and be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Fans who were hoping for Channel 7 to ditch the pre-recorded format will be disappointed. According to the audition website, those selected must be available for recording between October through November 2022, making it a shorter run around five to seven weeks.

If those filming dates hold, the next season could be a shorter run. The first season of the reboot in 2020, which saw Chad Hurst take home the crown lasted just seven weeks and ended around 42 days. While there is no official news on what Seven has planned, Big Brother Australia Season 5 also had a single housemate angle.

The news over Big Brother Australia‘s future has been running rampant after a report suggested the broadcaster had axed it. However, TVBlackBox quickly pushed back on the report, saying Seven was not done with the reality show yet, suggesting it would be brought back for another season.

Big Brother Australia just wrapped up its third run on Seven and 14th season overall. Reggie Bird made history as the first person to ever win the Australian Big Brother twice, taking home the $250,000 prize. Bird beat out Johnson Ashak and Taras Hrubyi-Piper to take home the crown.

Despite the hype of returning players, ratings were much lower than all three seasons of the revamped version, likely disappointing bosses at the network. Overall, the season averaged around 350,000 viewers but the finale saw that figure climb slightly to 363,000.
