(Fwrd Axis) — Joe Biden’s presidency has been in turmoil for over a year and he just got the most direct message that he is losing support among members of his own party.
A new poll from The New York Times/Siena College shows Biden with a 33 percent approval rating and over 56 percent disapproving of his job in office. According to an average from FiveThirtyEight, the President’s approval rating is 39.8 percent while his disapproval stays at 56 percent among registered voters.
In the poll, most Americans cite the President’s age as the number one factor why they do not want him to run for a second term. Biden, at 79 years old, is already the country’s oldest-ever president and has had several missteps while in office.
64 percent of Democrats say Biden should not seek a second term.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at Monday’s press briefing that the administration remains focused on the issues at hand and not the polling data.
“Not to get into politics from here or get into any political analysis, [but] this is not something — there’s going to be many polls. They’re going to go up, they’re going to go down, this is not the thing that we are solely focused on,” Jean-Pierre said.
“We’re not gonna pay attention to polls, it’s not what we’re going to do here. But [what] we’re going to focus on is delivering for the American people,” she added.
However, she did acknowledge the poll showing the majority of Americans, 75 percent to be exact, feel that America was headed in the wrong direction.
“We understand what the American people are feeling. We understand that. We understand that inflation is hurting families when they are around the kitchen table. When they are trying to figure out, you know, how they are going to deal with gas prices at the pump, how they’re going to deal with food prices as well,” Jean-Pierre said.
