Apple Unveils iOS 16 With New Look Lockscreen, Changes To Messages

The new software will be available to all Apple users later this fall and is expected to have tech heads talking.

CUPERTINO, Calif. (Fwrd Axis) — Apple held its annual developer conference, known as WWDC among the Apple fans, to unveil its next-generation mobile software, iOS 16. The new software will be available to all Apple users later this fall and is expected to have tech heads talking.

The new features will include allowing users to personalize their iPhone lock screens and change how they text friends in iMessage.

“iOS 16 is a big release with updates that will change the way you experience iPhone,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We have reimagined how the Lock Screen looks and works with exciting new features that make it more personal and helpful, introduced iCloud Shared Photo Library for families, streamlined communication through new capabilities in Messages and Mail, and harnessed enhanced intelligence with updates to Live Text and Visual Look Up.”

The new features for the lock screen will allow users will be able to add widgets on the lock screen to get information quickly and get updates that are live, such as sports games, up to the minute.

Perhaps the biggest change will come to iMessage, which will see the messaging app become more like WhatsApp.  Users will now be able to edit or unsend messages and mark messages as unread.

The company also continues to bet on health features. The Apple Watch will soon support new custom workout features, including heart rate zones and data on a runner’s stride. In addition, enhanced sleep tracking will monitor when a user goes in and out of light and deep sleep.

Apple also announced new MacBook Airs with the new M2 chip.

“We’re so excited to bring our new M2 chip to the world’s two most popular laptops — the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Completely redesigned around M2, MacBook Air is thinner, lighter, and faster with a bigger display, better camera, and all-day battery life, in four beautiful finishes. Only with Apple silicon can you build such a thin and light notebook with a fanless design, and this combination of performance and capabilities.”
